Motorcycle Sidecar Laws

There are a few motorcycle sidecar laws that you need to be aware of before taking your bike out with a sidecar attached. In general, sidecars must be attached to the left side of the motorcycle, and the driver and passenger must wear helmets.

Sidecars must be securely fastened to the motorcycle, and they cannot obstruct the rider’s view. The sidecar must also have its own brake system, and the driver must be able to disengage the sidecar’s brakes while riding.

In some states, it is illegal to operate a motorcycle with a sidecar without a valid driver’s license. In other states, you may need a special endorsement on your license. Check with your local DMV to find out the requirements in your state.

With a few exceptions, motorcycle sidecars are not allowed on interstate highways. So if you’re planning a long road trip, you’ll need to take the back roads.

Follow these laws and you’ll be able to enjoy riding with a sidecar without any problems. Just be sure to check the regulations in your state before hitting the road.
